Attention Visitors - Important Notice!

  • Please be advised - Snowmobiling is allowed on Atlin Lake only within the park. Beyond Atlin Lake, snowmobile use is prohibited and considered to be an offence under the Park and Recreation Area Regulations. Generally, the activity of snowmobiling is prohibited in most provincial parks.

Park Info:

The remoteness of the park, combined with the varied topography, offers exceptional outdoor holiday opportunities. Those that travel in this park should be experienced and well equipped. There are no supplies of any sort and no park personnel in the immediate area.

Visitors cannot access the park by vehicle. Visitors planning to enter the park must do so by boat or aircraft.

Park Size: 301,140.00 hectares.

Special Notes:

  • The climate patterns of the area are continental, with cold, long winters and warm summers. Stormy weather can linger in the valley for long periods.
  • Temperatures decrease with increasing elevation.
  • Because of latitude, Atlin Park has very short days in the winter, but by the June solstice there is no actual darkness at night.

Location:

Located in the northwest corner of the province, chartered access is available in the town of Atlin located along highway #7 from Jake’s Corner on the Alaska highway. Visitors cannot access the park by vehicle. Visitors planning to enter the park must do so by boat or aircraft.

    group sites) must be reserved through Discover Camping.

    Toilet facilities are provided in the park. They are located at every camping location noted on the park map.

    No firewood available. Primus - type stoves should be used. If a fire is needed, please keep it small.  Please ensure the fire is extinguished and that ashes and rocks are scattered before leaving.

    walking, hiking trails

    There are two maintained trails in the park. One trail begins at the head of Llewellyn Inlet which leads to a hiking route taking you to Llewellyn Glacier. The second trail is located at Sloko Inlet; this two kilometer trail leads to Sloko Lake.

    This park does not have a playground.

     

    swimming

    Swimming is possible but the water is very cool. There are NO LIFEGUARDS on duty at provincial parks.

    canoeing, kayaking

    Kayaking and canoeing are very popular on this lake. High winds are common. Kayaking on Atlin Lake has gained popularity and therefore there are commercial and private trips.

    power boats, boat launch

    No boat launch is available at this park. Caution should be exercised at all times while navigating these waters as shallow underwater reefs exist. High winds can create hazardous situations, especially for small craft.

    fishing

    The waters of Atlin Lake contain lake trout, Arctic grayling, Dolly Varden and two species of white fish. Anyone fishing or angling in British Columbia must have an appropriate license

    cycling, mountain biking, bicycling

    Cycling is not permitted.

    horses, horseback riding

    There are no horseback riding opportunities available in this park.

    pets, domestic animals in parks Pets are not recommended in the Atlin Lake provincial park.

    Backcountry areas are not suitable for dogs or other pets due to wildlife issues and the potential for problems with bears.

    No wildlife viewing opportunities.
