One Island Lake Provincial Park

Located in the Alberta Plateau, this small park is situated by a clear lake noted for its fishing opportunities. Activities include bird watching, fishing, swimming and just relaxing. 

Please note: This park is being maintained by a local community organization or business. Services and/or facilities may vary from provincial standards.

Location

Located 60 km southeast of Dawson Creek. Take Hwy #2 east of Dawson Creek for 30 km and look for the Park signs.

Nature & Culture

  • Conservation - This small park provides representation of the Kiskatinaw Plateau ecosection. The boreal white and black spruce biogeoclimatic zone covers One Island Park. Forests are comprised mainly of lodgepole pine and black and white spruce. 
  • Wildlife - A variety of waterfowl congregate at One Island Lake. Moose, white-tail and mule deer, beaver and black bear are also common to the area.  One Island Lake is a popular destination for area anglers. The lake is stocked annually with brook and rainbow trout. Other sport fish include bull trout, northern pike and wetslope cutthroat trout. The lake also supports other fish species such as brook stickleback, finescale dace and fathead minnow.

Canoeing

One Island Lake provides an opportunity for peaceful canoe and kayak trips.
Cycling

Cycling

Bicycles must keep to roadways. Bicycle helmets are mandatory in British Columbia.
Fishing

Fishing

Anglers can try their luck fishing for brook trout, rainbow trout, northern pike and bull trout. Anyone fishing or angling in British Columbia must have an appropriate licence.
Hiking

Hiking

There are hiking areas in the park but no developed trails. Be prepared when adventuring in the backcountry.
Pets on Leash

Pets on Leash

Pets/domestic animals must be on a leash at all times and are not allowed in beach areas. You are responsible for their behaviour and must dispose of their excrement.Backcountry areas are not suitable for dogs or other pets due to wildlife issues and the potential for problems with bears.

There are SCUBA diving or snorkelling opportunities.

There are no lifeguards on duty at provincial parks.

Facilities Available At This Park

Boat Launch

Boat Launch

  • The boat launch is gravel and located near the main entrance. As you drive in, it is straight ahead, past the campground.
  • It is a wide boat launch and has a parking area for vehicle/boat trailers.
Campfires

Campfires

While campfires are allowed and campfire rings are provided at each campsite, we encourage visitors to conserve wood and protect the environment by minimizing the use of fire and using campstoves instead. Firewood can be purchased in the park or you may bring your own wood.Fees for firewood are set locally and may vary from park to park. Limited burning hours or campfire bans may be implemented. To preserve vegetation and ground cover, please don't gather firewood from the area around your campsite or elsewhere in the park (this is a ticketable offence under the Park Act). Dead wood is an important habitat element for many plants and animals and it adds organic matter to the soil.
