The Conservation Framework has already guided many wildlife conservation projects for 2009. This
includes habitat protection measures, recovery strategies for species at risk, protection against
non-habitat threats (e.g., vehicle collisions), species inventory and monitoring. We’re
developing several pilot projects with non-government partners, and full development and
implementation of the Framework is expected to be complete by 2011.
Some of the key initiatives underway include:
Science & Information
- Assess all remaining species of conservation concern
- Geo-reference Conservation Framework information
- Complete on-line reporting mechanisms to ensure up-to-date information is used in annual
reassessments of priorities and actions.
- Linkage between species and ecosystem conservation
Implementation
- Implement the Conservation Framework within Ministry of Environment
- Coordinate and link with other ministries
- Make outputs available for all to use
Engagement and Alignment
- Communicate and consult with First Nations, stakeholders and other government agencies
- Discuss opportunities for alignment with funding bodies
- Develop partnerships through pilot projects
- Develop access tools for a range of clients
